Summer Experience 2025
Are you a high school or college student?
Are you eager to learn about the construction industry?
Summer Experience is designed for people 17+ years of age to work with Comfort Systems USA Shoffner over the summer and gain experience while discovering a variety of opportunities in the construction industry.
We are taking applications through May 2nd, 2025. There are limited spots available for each location.
Steps & Eligibility:
- High school or college students who would like to try working in construction.
- Must be 17+ by June 9th, 2025.
- Service department must be 18+ by June 9th, 2025.
- Recommended by:
- Comfort Systems USA Shoffner employee OR
- Teacher, counselor, or administrator.
- Have reliable transportation to and from the work location.
- Must be able to work Monday – Friday.
- 7:00am – 3:30pm for Knoxville / Asheville/ Roanoke.
- 7:30am – 4:00pm for Tri-Cities.
- Hours may vary slightly based on the job site.
- If under 18, parental permission and signature is required.

How will we select participants:
Should we receive more applications than spots available, we will use a ranking system to select the participants. Specific locations are listed at the bottom of the application.
- Recommendation, priority given to those recommended by a Comfort Systems USA Shoffner employee.
- Participation in CTE programs through your high school.
- Availability to work.
- Completeness to the questions on the application form.
Once Selected:
- Must pass a drug screen and physical capacity examination. HR will make the arrangements with the participant and parent (if under 18 years of age).
- Must provide your own work pants and safety toe boots (composite or steel toe).
- Shoffner will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as Hardhat, Safety Glasses, Gloves, high visibility shirts, and a basic starter tool set.
- Must be reliable and dependable – arriving on time at the job site.
Important Dates and Information:

Participants will be notified of acceptance into the program by May 12th, 2025.
Human Resources will work with participants in scheduling a drug screen and physical prior to starting.
Participants will attend orientation on Monday, June 9th at 8:00am. This is a paid day of orientation.
In addition to safety training and meeting with Human Resources, participants will complete a tool and material training.
The Summer Experience 1st job site workday is Tuesday, June 10th. You will be escorted to the job site and complete a site walk to become acclimated to a live construction site.
The final workday will be on Friday, August 1st.
